tk080724-01 - How to Set an E-Disk® 2.5” ATA Drive as Master/Slave or Cable Select
Overview:
Each ATA (PATA/IDE) channel can support up to two devices. When two drives are connected to a single ATA/IDE channel, there has to be some way of determining hierarchy between the drives. The drives can be differentiated by setting one drive as Master and the other drive as Slave through jumper settings. Another way is to set the jumpers on the drive so it will follow the IDE Cable System Master/Slave configuration, better known as Cable Select. An 80-conductor IDE/ATA cable must be used (or a special 40-wire cable) to support the Cable Select Option.
Discussion:
Jumper positions JF1 to JF4 are used to set the device ID (Master/Slave)
A. To configure the drive as Master (or device ID 0), remove jumpers on JF1 to JF4 (Note: This is the factory default setting)
B. To configure the drive as Slave, place a jumper on JF1 and JF2.
C. To configure the drive to follow Cable Master/Slave configuration or Cable Select, place a jumper on JF4 and JF2.
Note: All other jumper configurations not specified in this article are not supported.
