BiT Microsystems Breaks Flash Drive World Records with the First, Fastest, and Largest Storage Capacity 8-bit Ultra SCSI solid state E-Disk®

SUX35 18.5 GBytes Flash Drive and solid state Drive Storage Solution with over 18 MBytes/sec Sustained Read and Write Transfer Rates Delivers Unmatched Reliability, Performance, and Data Integrity

SAN JOSE, California -- Oct. 25, 1999 -- BiT Microsystems, Inc. announced today the availability of electronic disk EDisk® SUX35 -- the world's first, fastest, and largest capacity Ultra SCSI (8-bit) solid state drive and flash drive storage solution.

Designed and built to the requirements of solid state disk drive and flash drive's very reliable 8-bit high performance and large capacity solid state storage solution, SUX35 Ultra SCSI is the newest addition to BiTMICRO's electronic disk 8-bit EDisk flash drive and solid state disk drive product line. It doubles the performance of the previous SFX35 Fast SCSI (8-bit), and quadruples the earlier SNX35 Normal SCSI (8-bit) predecessors.

An offshoot of BiTMICRO's flash drive and solid state disk drive 16-bit SFW35 Fast Wide SCSI forerunner, the SUX35 Ultra SCSI sustained read transfer rate is over 6 times, sustained write transfer rate is over 18 times, and system access time is over 13 times faster than the fastest SCSI Flash solid state Disk competitor.

"The most intense demand for high performance and high capacity electronic disk SUX35 flash drive comes mainly from the telecommunication, audio/video recording and editing, government, aviation, space, and military sectors. The SUX35 is another benchmark in our commitment towards eliminating the widening performance gap between data storage and CPU speed, while improving storage reliability and reducing cost of ownership," said R.H. Bruce, president of BiT Microsystems, Inc.

Built on proven BiTMICRO's proprietary FlashBus technology, EDisk SUX35 solid state flash drive delivers 20 MBytes/sec burst and over 18 MBytes/sec sustained read and write transfer rates. With read and write access times of less than 0.1 msec, SUX35 delivers instant I/O performance. In addition, the SUX35 storage capacities range from 256 MBytes to an unprecedented 18.5 GBytes in a 3.5-inch form factor, shattering BiTMICRO's previous world record of 13.3 GBytes.

BiTMICRO's EDisks are compact and lightweight, have very low power consumption, and do not require a battery, UPS or backup hard disk drive to retain memory.

EDisk® SUX35 flash drive conforms to the SCSI interface industry standards. BiTMICRO's all electronic disk runs on all Windows, MacOS, and various UNIX platforms including Solaris, IRIX, Linux, *BSD, OS/2, AIX, SCO, OSF1, and CP/M.

SUX35's powerful hardware and firmware features proved to be robust and extremely resilient in various industry applications and open system environments worldwide by its predecessors: the SNX35, the SFX35, and the SFW35.

"We tried exhaustively other Flash Drives, but BiTMICRO's EDisks® are the only ones that work perfectly in our systems. We had marginal success with other vendors. Initially, we were very hesitant to even try BiTMICRO's slowest EDisk®. At 4.5 MBytes/sec sustained read and write transfer rates, SNX35 might just be too fast. To our surprise, the EDisk® SNX35 worked on our first try. Our customers were equally surprised that for the first time, their computers beat their monitors in booting up," said Tom Hollowell, director of Design Data Systems.

SUX35 is ideally suited in mission critical storage applications that require high system uptime and very reliable operations in a harsh environment of extreme temperature, shock, and vibration. With instant access time and blazing-fast read and write transfer rates, SUX35 addresses the needs for high-speed data, voice, video storage, and audio/imagery processing in legacy standard 50 pin (8-bit) interface.

Full Associative Caching, Memory Error Scrubbing, ECC Threshold, Wear-out Monitor, Reed Solomon Error Correction, Erase and Write Wear Leveling, and Automatic Bad Block Remapping are E-Disk® standard preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance features that provide SUX35 with extreme endurance, exceptional fault tolerance, extensive data protection, and outstanding data integrity.

As an option, BiTMICRO's PowerGuard can be added to the standard SUX35 EDisk configuration. PowerGuard serves a dual purpose. First, it provides the EDisk nearly 100 percent protection against brown-outs and all other instances of ungraceful power shutdowns. Second, it allows the user to securely erase all data instantaneously and irretrievably in the event of imminent capture or potential access by hostile parties.

PowerGuard ensures that data files in the middle of read/write operations and File Allocation Table (FAT) while in the process of being updated would not be lost or corrupted as the system powers down. Depending on the mode selected, the data save all or full erase function is executed automatically, manually or remotely by BiTMICRO's proprietary DataSentinel and securErase® firmware utilities.
