BiTMICRO Networks Strengthens Data Storage Presence with World's First 2.5-Inch EIDE Flash Drive Solid State Storage

E-Disk® ATE25 solid state Drive is Designed for Performance-Sensitive Portable Computing Devices and Embedded Systems

FREMONT, California -- Aug. 22, 2000 -- Responding to the IT community's increasing demand for high performance solid state storage flash drive solutions, BiTMICRO Networks introduced today the latest addition to their electronic disk product line of record-breaking flashdrive solid state storage solutions characterized by similarly compelling capacity and performance features - the E-Disk® ATE25.

Designed for demanding performance-class portable computing devices and embedded systems, the solid state drive E-Disk® ATE25 packs 4.3 GBytes of flash drive storage devices in a 2.5-inch form factor. The ATE25 EDisk (electronic disk) achieves phenomenal sustained read and write transfer rates of over 9 MBytes per second with burst read and write transfer rates of 11.1 MBytes per second and an astounding storage system access time of less than 0.2 ms.

"Continuing our commitment to the needs of the value-segment of the solid state storage market, we are bringing a unique blend of capacity, performance, and affordability to our customers," said Sal Ghalya, BiTMICRO's marketing and sales account executive. "Our ATE25 is an excellent choice for portable telecommunications, medical, multimedia, video and audio editing, and other embedded systems industry's growing upgrade market."

An EDisk ATE25 electronic disk flash drive requires a single input voltage of 5.0 volts. A 4.3 GByte solid state drive E-Disk's typical power consumption is merely 3 watts during maximum read and write operations, 0.7 watts on standby, and 0.3 watts on sleep mode. The device temperature rise is negligible; thus, there is no need for forced ventilation.

This enhanced electronic disk ATA-2 and ATA-3 ANSI Standards interface compliant solid state flash disk utilizes BiTMICRO's patented FlashBus technology. It is completely bootable and does not require any installable device drivers. It also implements BiTMICRO's proprietary remapping and wear-leveling techniques, automatic Flash memory scrubbing, and robust EDAC with interleaved Reed-Solomon ECC specifically optimized for flash devices.

The EDisks all electronic disks are plug-and-play solutions that have been tested on all major platforms. E-Disks® are fully compatible with Linux, Solaris, Windows NT, MacOS, and LynxOS. Other supported operating systems include AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, IRIX, NetBSD, OS/2, QNX, VxWorks, SCO Unixware and OpenServer, Solaris X86, and Tru64.

BiTMICRO's EDisk line of electronic disk products will be showcased at the following conferences and tradeshows: Embedded Systems Conference Booth #8044, Sep 24-28, 2000, San Jose, California; ORACLE OpenWorld 2000 Booth #641, Oct 1-5, 2000, San Francisco, California; COMDEX Fall 2000 FCIA Booth, Nov 13-17, 2000, Las Vegas, Nevada; COTScon West 2000 Booth #38, Dec 12-13, 2000, San Diego, California; CeBIT 2001 FCIA Booth, Mar 22-28, 2001, Hannover, Germany; and COTScon East 2001 Booth #166, May 31-Jun 1, 2001, Washington DC.

Available now, the new electronic disk EDisk ATE25 flashdrive is a drop-in replacement for any standard 2.5-inch IDE hard disk drives, flash disk drives or solid state disk drives. For product pricing and information, contact BiTMICRO Networks at http://www.bitmicro.com or (510)623-2341.
