FREMONT, California -- May 21, 2001 -- BiTMICRO Networks, Inc., surpassed its own solid state disk (SSD) storage industry record with the introduction of their EDisk ATA solid state flash disk series with unprecedented capacities of up to 17.4 GB in a 2.5-inch form factor.
BiTMICRO's 2.5-inch electronic disk ATA EDisk series revolutionizes the SSD industry standards with 17.4 GB, 13.3 GB, 9.2 GB, 5.1 GB and 1 GB at 24.8 mm, 20.7 mm, 16.7 mm, 12.6 mm and 8.6 mm heights respectively. The 2.5-inch ATA EDisk® series is offered with storage capacities starting at 128 MB up to 17.4 GB.
The all electronic disk series demonstrates bursts read and writes rates of 16.66 MB/sec and sustained random read and write rates of up to 14 MB/sec, the highest ATA sustained performance in the market. Powered by its own RISC processor, it avoids adding to the host CPU overhead that could slow down overall system performance. It is fully ATA-2, ATA-3, and ATA-4 compatible.
With its plug and play features, ATA 2.5-inch EDisk series is an ideal drop-in replacement for any conventional hard disk drives (HHD), SSD or flash disk drives. Device drivers are not required.
It provides up to 100x faster random read and write access times than the average HDD. Like all BiTMICRO® Networks' non-volatile storage products, the EDisk ATA 2.5-inch series provides instant response by virtually eliminating seek time and latency.
With solid state construction and no moving parts, the ATA25 series can withstand 1,000 Gs of operating shock, 16.4 Gs (rms) of operating vibration and extreme operating temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 degrees centigrade.
Unmatched protection against data loss and/or data corruption for all instances of ungraceful power degradation or failure is provided through its patented DataSentinel and PowerGuard® features. EDisk® is very reliable with 2 million hours of Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF).
Data integrity is assured with a very powerful proprietary Reed Solomon ECC algorithm that is optimized to Flash memory devices. The code is capable of detecting up to 9 and correcting up to 6 random bytes of errors per 512 bytes with read bit error rate of 10 to the minus 21 which is 1 million times better than the industry standard 10 to the minus 14.
BiTMICRO® also implements a combination of proprietary wear-leveling and remapping techniques, prolonging the effective electronic disk erase/write endurance by orders of magnitude. For example, a typical endurance write cycle of a 1 GB EDisk being written 100 GBytes per day is 27 years and at 100 MBytes per day is 28,000 years.
