BiTMICRO Releases Solid State Storage Performance and Capacity Management Solutions Suite at SIGGRAPH 2003 Conference

E-Disk® SafeCapacity Suite of Software Solutions are Designed to Maximize Investment of any Enterprise that Deploys E-Disk® Solid State Storage Across Direct Attached (DAS), Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) Architectures

SIGGRAPH Conference, SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- July 29, 2003 -- BiTMICRO Networks, a pioneer in intelligent flash disk ATA / IDE, SCSI, Fibre Channel, Storage Area Network (SAN) and Networks Attached Storage (NAS) solid state disk (SSD) storage solutions, announced today at SIGGRAPH 2003 being held in San Diego, California, the availability of the E-Disk® SafeCapacity software suite to complement its entire E-Disk® solid state storage product line.

In most storage systems, a small set of data files account for a disproportionately large amount of disk input and output (I/O). When identified, these "hot" files will most often be database log files, heavily hit indices and tables -- all excellent candidates for migration to solid state storage. SafeCapacity-Hotfile determines the most often accessed files and displays a list of these files in a descending order of access.

The software is loaded on a database or application server to record statistics about the occurrences of file access such as the read, write, and combination of reads and writes statistics. The resulting report of file names and their location becomes an invaluable tool to system administrators for SSD capacity planning and performance optimization.

Using SafeCapacity-Migration, administrators transparently relocate these hot files to the fastest storage available in their environment. Migrating hot files to Fibre Channel, Ultra SCSI or ATA / IDE E-Disk®, E Disk®SAN or E-Disk®NAS solid state storage delivers a 100% hit ratio - with the assurance that these hot files will be accessed from the fastest media available.

The fact that files are relocated to faster devices is completely unobservable to both users and applications. The appearance and attributes of the files remain the same, while access to these files is transparently redirected to the high-performance storage without any performance degradation. This approach eliminates the need to reconfigure databases or applications while increasing I/O throughput. End-users and IT staff will notice faster database access, much improved response times and faster batch processing.

"IT managers have long since accepted the fact that solid state storage technology offers one of the best returns in terms of throughput and latency over any other type of secondary storage. However, determining optimum SSD capacity and which hot files had to be relocated used to be an involved and hit-and-miss exercise. With the advent of E-Disk® SafeCapacity, BiTMICRO's customers will now be able to unlock the potential of deploying E-Disk® SSD through a systematic and best-practices approach to attaining a well-balanced storage architecture," says Rudy Bruce, President of BiTMICRO Networks.

"We are redefining the role of solid state memory in the enterprise storage arena with the introduction E-Disk® SafeCapacity, E-Disk® SAN and E-Disk® NAS solutions. Our goal is to help our customers become more comfortable with the use of SSD technology in optimizing their storage architectures as we continue to deliver unique software tools and services in the years to come," adds Bruce.
