Implementation of 80-pin SCA-2 Interface Standard in E-Disk 3S320E Promotes Enterprise Class Solid State Disk Storage for RAID, Server, Network Storage, and Other Mission-Critical Applications
Fremont, CA - January 4, 2005 - In response to overwhelming market demand for fast and reliable Ultra320 SCSI data storage, BiTMICRO® Networks announced the delivery of an 80-pin version of the E-Disk® 3S320 - the world's first Ultra320 SCSI solid state flash disk drive.
This latest Ultra320 variant features the Single Connector Attachment (SCA-2) interface. Under this standard, the regular 68-pin data connector, 4-pin power connector, and various configuration jumpers on a hard disk are all replaced by a single 80-pin connector. The SCA-2 system facilitates hot swapping, which means that failed hard drives can be easily removed from the disk array and replaced with new ones without powering down the system. The maintenance of DAS in critical enterprise applications such as servers, network storage, high-end workstations, and RAID storage is simplified to a large extent when hot swap capability is combined with its impressive MTBF of 2 million hours.
Hot swappability, reliability and high-speed performance are also some of the key features which make the 80-pin E-Disk® 3S320E solid state disk highly suitable for military deployments. With simplified repair and maintenance as well as reduced downtime, overall system availability in the battlefield is ensured.
"The 80-pin E-Disk® Ultra320E SCSI solid state flash disk drive facilitates storage management at the hardware level as the convenience and simplicity offered by SCA-2 is seamlessly merged with the speed of Ultra320," says Rudy Bruce, President of BiTMICRO® Networks. "We are proud to have blazed the trail in Ultra320 SCSI-based solid state flash storage, and this latest development further raises the bar and illustrates our company's commitment in bringing Ultimate Storage Solutions™ to reality," Bruce adds.
About the E-Disk® Ultra320 SCSI Solid State Disk
The E-Disk® Ultra320 SCSI is OS independent and features up to 42 µsec access time and a maximum IOPS of 12,500. Sustained R/W rate is 68 MB/sec (max) and burst R/W rate is 320 MB/sec (max). This pure solid state/non-volatile drive can handle operating shock of up to 1500 Gs and extreme temperatures from -40 to +85°C. MTBF is 2 million hours. Available in a 3.5-inch form factor, maximum capacity for the E-Disk® Ultra320 SCSI is pegged at 155 GB.
The E-Disk Ultra320 SCSI product line requires no device drivers, is completely bootable and fully compatible with major platforms such as Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS and LynxOS, AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, IRIX, NetBSD, OS/2, QNX, VxWorks, SCO Unixware and Open Server, Solaris x86, and Tru64.
Faster and more reliable than previous versions of SCSI, Ultra320 offers packetized SCSI, an innovative protocol that creates a more efficient method of transferring commands, messages, status, and data between SCSI devices. Other key features include skew compensation, domain validation, double-transition data transfers, free-running clock and cyclic redundancy check.
