Proprietary Reed-Solomon Error Correction Code (RS-ECC)
|
BiTMICRO® Networks' solid state E-Disks® use a proprietary Interleaved Reed-Solomon Error Correction Code (RS ECC) which is optimized for use with Flash memory. Our RS-ECC code delivers an accuracy of a probability of less than 10-30 undetected data errors. It corrects up to six random byte errors per 528-byte blocks and detects burst errors up to nine bytes long. Competing Flash disk drives use industry-standard EDAC/ECC code commonly found in hard disk drives designed for serial bit streams that is not optimal for use with Flash memory. This industry standard code over Galois Field (211) has eight 11-bit characters (88 bits, or 11 bytes) of redundancy. Empirical measurement will show that the competition's RS ECC when hit with three random byte errors, will miscorrect more than 20% of the time! BiTMICRO® Networks' RS ECC, with a proper decoding algorithm, will NEVER miscorrect three random byte errors. For very large number of errors, the competition's RS ECC will miscorrect roughly 25% of the time. In contrast, BiTMICRO® Networks' RS ECC will only miscorrect less than 0.1% of the time for errors greater than 9 bytes out of 528 bytes. |
