Solid state disks are usually designed into military ruggedized cockpit voice and data recorders that need to withstand impact and ensure survivability.
Flash solid state disks are currently the only viable product available to these applications particularly data recorders / data acquisition / data loggers, etc. Some other examples are: air transports such as airplanes, helicopters, weather balloons, NASA spacecraft; water transports such as ships, and high-speed sea craft.
