Financial and On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) Applications

Faster Response Times for Online Transactions

Financial and on-line transaction processing applications not only have the requirements as those of ISPs, ASPs and e-commerce applications but they also have a significant cost associated with any system downtime. Again, these applications typically employ the SAN or NAS architecture. Solid-State Disks are normally used as read/write cache to significantly improve user response time in addition to RAID systems, as well as being a storage component of the RAID system. Banking services, financial services, stock exchange, reservation systems, health systems, as examples, all require a HAL of 5. Although the files transported are rather small (2KB of data or text), these databases are huge and growing continuously in size. Therefore, reliability, high I/O operations per second (IOPS), and scalability are key requirements for these applications.

For specific types of applications, ROI is easily demonstrable when these types of files are selectively applied and relocated to non-volatile E-Disk® SSDs. In the case of one of our customer's ERP application, total batch run job duration was decreased by a factor of 10 (see the white paper Enhancing SAP Performance with Solid-State Disk).
