Large enterprises and xSPs are realizing that the applications and the servers they reside on are becoming increasingly vital to the services they are providing. Systems like enterprise resource planning (ERP), on-line transaction processing (OLTP) applications, electronic mail, multimedia streaming applications and e-commerce to sustain these day-to-day operations.
Although rapid technological advancements in microprocessors, CPU architectures, and storage interfaces (such as UltraSCSI and Fibre Channel) have created powerful computing platforms at the disposal of IT managers, the fastest disk drive media transfer rates are still only one third of FC today and are not expected to keep pace with improvements in storage interface speeds. This scenario more often than not results in I/O bound applications that are typical of unbalanced platforms in the market today. Severe penalties are incurred by inadvertently relegating precious CPU and storage interface resources to servicing I/O queues and wait cycles.
In the battle to achieve shorter batch processing periods and quicker response times for data intensive applications, enterprises traditionally take one or more approaches:
Businesses who choose to upgrade their environments have an alternative in deploying SSDs as they discover that traditional approaches prove not to be cost-effective at all.
Enter BiTMICRO E-Disk®
In many business-critical enterprise applications, a small set of files consumes the majority of I/O operations that take place. More often than not, this small subset will be responsible for most of the I/O activity and hence will be the best candidates for relocation to SSD.
BiTMICRO's E-Disk® offers all of the advantages of DRAM-based solid state Disks and does not suffer from the performance limitations found in their competitor's line of Flash-based solid state Disks (Flash Disks). In terms of potential applications, our E-Disk® offers significantly shorter access time to stored information, acting as performance boosters for Internet and intranet servers. The main benefits are much faster I/O operations and much higher data transfer rates. E-Disks® may also be used to improve the transfer performance for Direct Attached Storage (DAS), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN) architectures and Redundant Array of Independent Disks.
Applications:
ISP, ASP and E-commerce Applications
Financial and On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) Applications
Portable Computing
Direct Attach Storage (DAS)
NAS and SAN
RAID Systems
